The Healing Power of Reflexology

I worked at a wellness center a few years back & the best part of working there was the occasional massage I'd get! The bosses figured it would be better for us to know all we could about the services we offered, so they had us do a little bit of studying & they also gave us free massages each week! One of my favorite massages was reflexology, which is basically a massage for the feet and hands. Just like a regular massage, reflexology relaxes the muscles & lessens body tension. Reflexology also promotes better circulation. So the next time you're feeling tense or stressed, why not opt for a full body massage that includes reflexology!

Reflexology, an effective and enjoyable healing art form, has been around since ancient times. It has produced beneficial results in cases of PMS, headaches, allergies, digestive problems, and sinus issues. And can also relieve pain in the neck, leg, shoulder, arm, upper and lower back.

There are many benefits of reflexology. Science recognizes the body as having innate ability to function at 100% if all circulatory, muscular, sensory, lymphatic and nerve systems function without interference. The specific rolling pressure used in reflexology can help all the above systems eliminate toxins and other harmful chemicals, allowing the body to rejuvenate itself.

Most reflexologists concentrate mainly on the feet, while others reflex the hands, feet and ears to promote relaxation and rejuvenate health. Reflexologists use thumbs, knuckles and fingers over body maps that are believed to exist in these areas. The gentle, rolling application of pressure stretching over the skin increases circulation throughout the whole body. Reflexology also relaxes body muscles and lessen body tension, thus increasing better circulation so the body can heal itself.

The skin has thousands of tiny nerves receptors that send messages to the brain, which is the main communication organ that transmits messages to the rest of the body. Scientists agree that stress causes an accumulation of chemicals to form around the nerve endings. These chemicals irritate the nerve endings, causing your body to experience tenderness and sensitivity. By reflexing the feet, hands or ears, these tiny nerves are stimulated, relaxing the body and increasing blood supply (containing oxygen, nutrients, lymph, hormones, enzymes, water and electrolytes) to all body parts. Additionally, through circulation, the blood eliminates these irritating chemicals (toxins) from the kidneys, skin, lungs, and colon.
