Having trouble studying...

I've been put on Ritalin. My attention has been all over the place for a while and finally I don't feel the urge to shake my leg when i'm sitting talking with a friend or fiddling with something all the time or having half thoughts cuz i've moved on to the next thought. I'm taking ritalin and it seems to be working... SLOWLY. lol I still have trouble focusing on studying but I'm really trying lol Learning medicines and laws isn't as fun as I thought... maybe it will get interesting further down the line. lol

A few FREE OR CHEAP things to do in L.A.

SoLo (Laila) Will be out here in L.A. next month and so I thought well maybe there might be some blog readers that might take a trip out here as well. With these tough economic times, not too many people have the money to splurge on entertainment so I've come up with a small list of ideas you can do to have fun do fun things while your're out here for FREE. Public transportation is not too expensive. $1 - $1.50 per ride per person or have a day pass for $5 and ride back n forth unlimited times on certain lines. Alright.  here are a few free activities to do while you are visiting la la land!

1: Walk on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Like most tourists, you might be dying to walk on these stars so head on over to Hollywood and take a picture with the star of your favorite celebs!

2: Take a hike up Griffith Park.

Griffith Park is EXCELLENT for hiking and when you get to the top, you have an AMAZING view of the entire city of Los Angeles.

3: Go to The Price is Right!!
This is fun and something that even non tourists do. Make sure before you leave your state or country that you visit The Price is Right website to print out your ticket. It's completely free but be sure that you arrive HOURS before the scheduled arrival time to make sure you get a seat inside the studio. otherwise you have waited in the long line for nothing. My friend and I showed up at 5 or 6 in the morning and we were the 2nd people to arrive and got pretty good seats. so arrive super early to start forming the line at the entrance gate.
Even if you are not chosen to go on stage, it is a lot of fun just being there in person.

4: Visit Union Station
This piece of Los Angeles history is Amazing. It is the main railway in Los Angeles and is also the largest passenger railway in the entire Western United States. You can tell by the architecture, the furniture and everything else. You absolutely MUST visit this place. The interior lobby is awesome.

5: Visit the ORIGINAL farmers market

This is one of my favorite places to go, eat, and have a drink at the bar.

The market started when a dozen nearby farmers would park their trucks on a field to sell their fresh produce to local residents. The cost to rent the space was fifty cents per day.
In 1870, when they moved west from Illinois, Arthur Fremont (A.F.) Gilmore and his partner bought two sizable farms, one of which was the 256-acre (1.04 km) dairy farm at this corner. Gilmore gained control when the partnership dissolved later.
Gilmore Oil Company replaced the dairy farm when oil was discovered under the land during drilling for water in 1905, which became the Salt Lake Oil Field. Earl Bell (E.B. Gilmore, son of A.F. Gilmore, took over the family business. The younger Gilmore started midget car racing and brought professional football to Los Angeles. He built Gilmore Field for the Hollywood Stars  baseball team, which was owned by Bing Crosby, Barbara Stanwyck, and Cecil B. DeMille.

Please Pray for My NIECE!

There is some news I have been keeping from you all for 2 months now.
I didn't feel ready to say anything but now I feel I can share this very personal matter with all of you my blog readers.
2 months ago, my 8 year old niece Carisma was diagnosed with an uncommon type of cancer on her liver. she has gone through 2 rounds of chemo therapy and apparently it doesn't seem to be working. My niece seems to be doing MUCH better. She seems to be eating normally again, even hopping and running around, and playing with her cousins and friends. the first round of chemo really made her feel awful. She was bed ridden and wasn't eating much at all. The second round her hair started falling off and now she has her hair falling off in clumps so she wears a hat most of the time. she seems to be doing great but the doctors say that the chemo hasn't worked at all even if her entire abdomen is not as huge as it had first been. The doctors are fearing that the tumor will spread and attack her kidneys. They said the tumor has grown and so they need to schedule her for surgery October 1st.
The entire family has been praying for her non stop and hoping this surgery will be a success and that the tumor will be removed without popping and spreading.
I want to ask all my blog readers a huge favor and that is to please pray for my niece to get better and for this surgery to be a success. No matter what religion or beliefs you have. ALL PRAYERS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. PLEASE PLEASE send my niece Carisma your prayers.

Thank you sooo much!

Answer to brain exercise.

Answer: both boxes hit the floor at the same time because a box containing 4 kilos of bricks weighs the same as a box that contains 4 kilos of feathers. LOL

Time for some brain exercises!!

2 identical boxes are dropped off a 5 story building at the exact same time. both boxes weigh 4 kilos each. One box contains bricks and the second box contains feathers. which box hits the ground first?

Stay tuned for the answer later today! :)

It's not a good idea...

It's not a good idea to eat tacos and walk your dog at the same time... especially when you remember it hasn't pooped yet. LOL I guess I won't be doing this again. lol.

This is AWESOME! shooting hearts!

Super HOT TODAY!

My goodness!! first day of fall and it's hotter than ever!!! GEEEBUS!! I woke up this morning after a night of bar hopping with my roommate so I was in NO MOOD FOR HEAT and it caught me by surprise. My entire apartment is super hot and I dont know how to use the air conditioner in my apartment LOL. Anyway, the day is almost over and I have not gotten up. I have been chillin in my closet taking a recuperation nap because it's much cooler in my closet and since my closet is pretty big my roommate and I have been laying down in there with the doors closed keeping cool. LOL  My hangover is now gone I think I will now get up and take a shower and have dinner with a friend. I tell ya, last night is the LAST night I will drink like that again. lol  Yes the pictures are super blurry. I know. LOL

New chefs vs Old chefs

Frustrates me that the new young, hip, trendy, tv chefs have replaced GREAT shows and AMAZING CHEFS like cooking with Jaques Pepin, New Scandinavian cooking with Andreas Viestad, Ciao Italia with Mary Ann Esposito, Lidia Bastianich, Rick Bayless, Ming Tsai, crazy Martin Yan, Tommy Tang, hell I'll even include Joanne Weir and Rick Browne etc.. All these AMAZING CHEFS that cooked and would give you the history on the food they were cooking, they added so much cultural richness through the history of their ingredients and traditions. So much history in one dish and they made sure you knew it as well. AMAZING talent that has unfortunately now been replaced by a bunch of trendy, hip, amateurs like Fabio, Ludo Lefebvre, the Voltaggios even though they're hot, all the other "known" chefs. where's the culture and history in your food? there's none. the only story to their food is trend... must be more trendy and innovative. PLEASE!! SIT DOWN AND LET THE REAL CHEFS SHOW YOU HOW IT'S DONE!!
Old Chefs win in my opinion.. HANDS DOWN!! LOL

FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN!!! :)

Maybe I was wrong a few weeks ago about it being the last day of summer... apparently to day is the first day of autumn/fall. I LOVE IT because it's BAKING SEASON!!!! YAY and time for comfort foods like chicken pot pie (which I plan to make soon), the Japanese noodle dish I blogged about below (which I plan to eat that soon), home made chili, one pot meals, apple pie/danish/tart, warm beignette! mmmmmm!! hot chocolate, chai tea, spices like cinnamon, cardamon, dry juniper berries, ground fennel seeds, cumin and so forth. All the good berries! aaaahhhh! I am LOVING IT! It's super hot today though... :(

I WANT TO MAKE THIS!!!! OMG!! I think I might actually make it!

Lush pork, toothsome noodles, and a heady broth you can't stop slurping-it's no wonder ramen joints are drawing droves of diners, off-duty chefs, and seemingly everyone on your Instagram feed. Bringing shoyu ramen home takes a trip to an Asian market, three days of work, and your largest pot, but this low-stress (really!) labor of love might be the best soup you'll ever make.

Ramen officially reached cult status this year at noodle joints from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. But there's no need to wait in that hour-long line-you can host your own pop-up with this authentic, step-by-step recipe.

SHOYU RAMEN

Active Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 3 days
Difficulty: Moderate. Shopping and planning are the most work

Ingredients
 Kombu dashi and tare
 - 2 pieces dried kombu
- ½ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp. dry sake
- 1 Tbsp. mirin pork and stock
 - 1½ lb. boneless pork shoulder
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
 - 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 lb. chicken necks, backs, and/or wings
 - 1 lb. pork spareribs
 - 2 bunches scallions, chopped
- 2 carrots, peeled, cut into pieces
- 1 head of garlic, halved horizontally
- 1 1" piece ginger, peeled, sliced
- ¼ cup bonito flakes

Ramen and Garnishes
 - 3 large eggs
 - 6 5-oz. packages fresh thin and wavy ramen noodles (or six 3-oz. packages dried)
- ½ cup menma (fermented bamboo shoots)
- 6 scallions, thinly sliced
- 3 toasted nori sheets, torn in half
 - Chili oil, toasted sesame oil, and shichimi togarashi (for serving)

Preparation:

Ingredient info:
You can find all the Asian ingredients listed here at Asian markets, in the Asian foods section of some supermarkets, and online. Look in the refrigerated section of Asian markets for fresh noodles. Ask your butcher for chicken necks and backs.

Kombu dashi and tare
Two days ahead
: For the dashi, combine kombu and 4 quarts cold water in a large bowl. Cover and let sit at room temperature at least 8 hours and up to 12 hours. For the tare, combine soy sauce, sake, and mirin in a small bowl; cover and chill. pork and stock

One day ahead: Season pork shoulder with salt and pepper. Roll up and tie with kitchen twine at 2" intervals. (This helps keep the meat intact while cooking and makes for round, compact slices.) Heat oil in a large heavy pot (at least 8 quarts) over medium-high heat Cook pork shoulder, turning, until brown all over, 10-12 minutes. Add chicken, spareribs, scallions, carrots, garlic, ginger, and bonito flakes. Remove kombu from dashi; discard. Add as much kombu dashi as will fit in pot once liquid is boiling (reserve remaining dashi). Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, skimming the surface occasionally and adding remaining dashi as liquid reduces, until pork shoulder is tender and stock has reduced to about 2 quarts, 2½-3 hours. Remove pork shoulder from stock and let cool. Wrap tightly in plastic and chill until ready to use. (Chilling pork will make meat easier to slice.) Strain stock through a fine-mesh sieve into another large pot or a large bowl or container; discard solids (including ribs and chicken). Cover and chill.

SEE MORE: Mastering Hot Sauce

Ramen and Garnishes
Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Carefully add eggs one at a time and boil gently for 7 minutes. (Egg yolks should be shiny yellow and almost jammy; egg white should be just set.) Drain eggs and transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop cooking; let cool. Peel; set aside. Remove string and thinly slice pork; cover and set aside. When ready to serve, bring stock to a simmer; it should be very hot. At the same time, cook noodles in a large pot of boiling water according to package directions until al dente; drain (no need to salt the water, as ramen noodles contain more salt than pasta). Just before serving, divide noodles among 6 deep bowls. Top with sliced pork, placing it off to one side. Add tare to hot stock and ladle over pork to warm through (stock should come up just to the level of the noodles). Place a small pile of menma next to pork. Halve eggs and place next to menma. Place a small pile of sliced scallions next to egg. Tuck half a sheet of nori between side of bowl and noodles so it's just poking out.

Serve ramen with chili oil, sesame oil, and shichimi togarashi.

DO AHEAD: Eggs can be cooked 1 day ahead. Keep unpeeled eggs covered in cool water. Cover and chill.

YAY FOR FRANCE!!!!!!!

France's senate has passed a ban on "sexualized" beauty pageants.

The Senate approved the ban, which is an effort to protect young girls from being sexualized, after a 197-146 vote. Under the new law, anyone who enters a child younger than 16 into a beauty contest would face up to two years in prison and 30,000 euros in fines. The strict measures left pageant organizers outraged. You can read the rest of this article by clicking below.

I agree with this 100% young girls don't need fake eyelashes, fake hair, whitened teeth or even fake teeth. kids are beautiful the way they are!!
I think it's time for these parents and organizations that host these competitions to wear the now very popular punishment sign of shame and stand on a street corner telling passerbys what they have been making their child do.
It's also time to have companies and photographers, fashion designers and people who recruit and sexualize young kids to have a turn at wearing their sign of shame as well for globalizing a very sexual "standard" image for young kids and teens.

It's corporation porn, child porn, child abuse, all glorified. this has become a nasty nasty world we live in and it must be stopped!

In my day kids aspired to be doctors, lawyers, astronauts, teachers. Now kids aspire to be models and walk runways around the world and appear on magazine covers. Where have we gone wrong? In my day, kids would play hide n seek, tag, play jump rope, double dutch, grow lima beans in plastic cups with a wet cotton ball inside, make paper boats and float them on water puddles outside when it rained, had ant farms, rock collections, played with worms in the yard, Now kids spend time practicing poses, makeup, looking a magazines, making videos on youtube to be the next star, posting provocative pictures on facebook. this madness must come to an end and I'm glad its starting with FRANCE! it did have a 10 year old girl posing provocatively on French Vogue, It looks as though they are starting to realize what they did wrong. Leave it up to the Americans to reject this ban idea the French have set up. Parents need to stop living their dreams through their kids and let their kids be kids. I'm with the French on this one.
Ok that was my opinion... read the rest of the article below:

WOW AMAZING CASE is REOPENED!!!!

Ok this is a crazy story!! I would LOVE to see this solved!!!
A new age-progression drawing of a baby stolen from a Chicago hospital 49 years ago could provide important clues in a mystery that has produced both hope and heartache for the family of the infant, named Paul Fronczak at birth.

LOVE IT!

My favorite song at the moment! :)

This week's DUMB ASS of the week

We all know who Jaden Smith is right? The son of Will Smith and Jada Pinket Smith.
This kid decided to tweet the following ignorant statement:
If Everyone "Dropped Out of School," Society Would Be "More Intelligent"

I'm sorry but this kid's self entitlement attitude pisses me off. One young woman (Victoria Hernandez) replied with:
"He should tell that to the kids in other countries, the ones who are LITERALLY risking their lives for any kind of education.

His statement was really painful to read"
And she's completely right! oh the ignorance is amazing!
Somebody slap this kid and his parents.

Weekend Humor!!

Hi there! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!! here are a few jokes for you to enjoy!! I found them hilarious!! lol check it out!

DUCKS and Doctors
Three doctors are in the duck blind and a bird flies overhead. The general practitioner looks at it and says, "Looks like a duck, flies like a duck...it's probably a duck," and shoots at it but misses and the bird flies away. The next bird flies overhead and the pathologist looks at it, then looks through the pages of a bird manual, and says, "Hmmmm...green wings, yellow bill, quacking sound...might be a duck." He raises his gun to shoot it, but the bird is long gone.A third bird flies over. The surgeon raises his gun and shoots almost without looking, brings the bird down, and turns to the pathologist and says, "Go see if that was a duck."

Secret Sauerkraut

A doctor started having an affair with his nurse.
Shortly after this started, she announced that she had become pregnant.
Not wanting his wife to find out, he gave her a large amount of money and asked her to go out of the country, to Germany, to wait out the pregnancy and have the baby over there.'
But, how will you know when our baby is born?' she asked.'
Well,' he said,' after you've had the baby, just send me a postcard and write' sauerkraut' on the back.'
Not knowing what else to do, she took the money and went off to Germany.
Six months went by and then one day the doctor's wife called him at his office.'
Dear, you received a very strange postcard in the mail today,' she explained.' I don't understand what it means!''
Just wait until I get home and I'll read it,' he replied.
Later that evening, the doctor came home and read his postcard, which said:' Sauerkraut, Sauerkraut, Sauerkraut: Two with wieners, One without!'

Skip a Day
A blonde is overweight, so her doctor puts her on a diet.
"I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat the procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least five pounds."
When the blonde returns, she's lost nearly 20 pounds.
"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor says. "Did you follow my instructions?"
The blonde nods. "I'll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day." "From hunger, you mean?" said the doctor.
"No, from skipping," replied the blonde.

the most amazing dessert ever!!

I am back at my mother's place but before I left my apartment, for the weekend, I decided to have breakfast at paris baguette. Initially, I was gonna grab a latte to go but i couldnt resist the pastries and got a glutenous ball with some sugar. basically its a doughnut whole made from rice flour, fried and sprinkled with sugar. I am on a diet but i had to try this. IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!! the outside was crispy, very slightly sweet and had a nice texture. the inside was this warm super chewy delicious piece of heaven!! soooo good I could not explain. the bigger ball had sweet bean paste which i am not a fan of but I still ate it. boy oh boy that was good! I also had some orange juice. So that was my morning snack!

My new killer shades!... and playing the waiting game

I bought some new shades and I am in love with them!! they are mudd shades but these will do until I get my super shades! I went to visit my uncle Ray who is an urgent care doctor at a hollywood hospital and I usually have time to chat a little, we go to his room and chat it up. yes his room in the hospital where he sleeps because he only goes home for 2 full days. the other five days he works round the clock. Anyway, yesterday was kinda busy for him so our conversation kept getting interrupted and so while I played the waiting game in his room while he went downstairs or upstairs to check on some of his patients, I snapped some silly pictures of me sitting there waiting and sent them to him lol. I found myself pulling on my gum, chewing, and pulling again. lol check it out! lol this is what you do when your bored! lol

You know it's Fall/ Autumn season when...

Summer has come and gone. We are now finishing the first week... or is it the second week??... of Autumn and boy I can really feel the beginning of it! I love every season really... each one has its charm. Spring is nice to see all the flowers bloom and birds flying around and the butterflies. Summer is all around fun and I LOVE the summer heat!! having fresh fruit in the sun. During Autumn its really nice to see the leaves on the trees change color and fall off... soooo beautiful. Winter is nice because you can stay at home in the evenings after work and watch a movie curled up on your couch wrapped in your cozy blanket and slippers and sip on some hot chocolate. AAAHHH I love living in a city where you can really tell the difference between each season. Here are my 5 signs you are now experiencing autumn season!

1: You start pulling out the warmer blankets from your closet :)
2: Wake up at night feeling a little cold
3: Open your windows one morning and feel a chilly wind and it's a gloomy outside. It heats up a little in the afternoon though but not too much and the air is cool.
4: You start to notice there aren't anymore flies around your home anymore
5: When you go shopping, you no longer see bright summer colors on the clothes racks... instead you see orange, brown, beige, yellow, purple, more earthy colored clothes items.

Alright everybody! If you have anything else to add, feel free to comment below or shoot me an email at sohomeetssolo2@gmail.com That's it for now, I will have more posts later. Big hugs to all my readers!

Packing your bags? leaving the U.S.A???

Apparently more and more and even a record breaking number of Americans have turned in their passports, packing their bags and exiting the United States of America. Why?? To avoid taxes on EVERYTHING!! With all the crazy taxes we pay here in the states, Americans are fleeing to other countries where they have assets or plan to have assets. Frankly, if I could afford it, I would leave too. LOL!! More Americans have turned in their passport in 2013 than in 2010, 2011, 2012 combined!! OUCH!! check out this article!http://finance.yahoo.com/news/should-you-renounce-your-citizenship-144048875.html

Who will host the 2020 Olympics??

All votes by the olympic committee are in after the initial tie between Madrid, Spain and Istambul, Turkey. After another round of votes were made, one other city broke that tie and took the vote for hosting the 2020 Olympic games. The honor of hosting city for the games went to TOKYO, JAPAN!! In my opinion, I feel Turkey would have been an excellent choice but Tokyo I am sure has lots to offer as well. So here go!! The 2020 Olympic games will be held in Tokyo, Japan. Will you be following the olympic games???

Kawaii???? CUTE TREND??

Hi everybody!! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!!
This morning I was channel surfing as I found nothing to watch on tv... then I saw a title that said Kawaii but for some reason I misread it and though it said HAWAII so I changed the tv to that channel and found it was full of these Japanese girls acting overly excited and trying to be cute!! Apparently there are huge conventions celebrating this "Kawaii" lifestyle but honestly people, who is going to take you seriously when you dress and act like a "cute" child and in reality you are a grown woman or man???? I found it ridiculous. I'm sorry the whole concept of walking around in these ridiculous costumes dressed like you popped out of the candyland game board is just plain stupid. How does this become part of a culture? blows my damn mind... Anyway what is your opinion on grown ups dressing and acting like "cute" dolls or whatever... I'm not kidding, I fear these people have suffered from depression or some type of mental disorder... sooooo lame. LOL

For my Bro!!

Today I made REAL goulash for my brother.
For myself and my mom, it was chicken soup... Mexican style.. with lots of healthy veggies!!

NO MORE GMOs PLEASE!!!!!

In the mid-1990's, new food proteins were engineered and introduced into our food supply (GMOs), yet many people are still, to this day, clueless about this. No human trials were ever conducted to see if these genetically engineered proteins were actually safe for animal- and human consumption. And now we have explosive increases in food allergies. This is no coincidence.

Makeup time!

This morning I was watching my mother expertly apply her makeup to herself and I never wear makeup; I dont even own makeup but watching my mom put her makeup on made me want to wear some. I then asked my mom to do my makeup for me so she tried and did one eye for me and I did the other eye... my eye was a disaster. I became frustrated and just washed the entire thing off. lol
