Greek YUMMY!!!
Ok I have to thank you Fuser for emailing me ur pictures. WOW!!! I really really really really enjoyed reading ur email. It made me laugh and was quite interesting about the coffee traditions in Greece. I tell you that in Mexico, where my dad is from, They drink coffee like that too. But they have it black with sugar. One cup in the morning and one in the evening after dinner. VERY interesting ur information. Alright guys here are the pictures our lovely Fuser emailed me along with the coffee information. it was really nice actually so take a look!! just a side note here... OMG i must have been Greek in a past life!! lol from what Fuser describes about the glass of water and coffee , figs and cherries or a sweet, I am so serious I eat like a Greek person!! how cool!!! lol! ok ps i still love yogurt and honey with melon more than anything else on this planet!! ok not that much but I can sure go for some figs right now... mmmm Oh i had sweet cherries today! Ok here is the Greek coffee info thanx to Fuser!!!
here in Greece coffee
is a daily habit (morning and evening)
we have two types of coffee that we love to drink.
the first it's called greek coffee and the other frape.
the greek one is boiled in a 'briki' (which is a kind of coffee pot)
you may drink it black,or with sugar,
and it's served in a small cup.
This coffee is accompanied with a glass of cool water
and a sweet fig or cherry or any other sweet
that the woman of the house made previous summer.
here we call it ''glyko tou koutaliou''
The other coffee, frape,
it's beaten in a blender with a little bit of water
(black or with sugar)
and becomes like foam
we put the coffee in the glass and fill it with cool water and ice.
of course we gonna need a straw to dring it!lol
people who drink this coffee with sugar, usually add milk to the coffee
... and the frape is ready for served.
young people drink greek coffee in the morning
and all the other hours you can see them with a glass of frape
on the beaches or the coffee shops or.... the balconies!
older people dring only greek coffee,
cause this habit it's more then a daily process,
usually older people drink coffee when they have company, or when they relax,
or when you just want to chat with your friend or neighbor about
all the daily...gossip, all the news.
so...before drinking, we say to each other:
"sthn ugeia sou" {something like..cheers(means in your good health)}.
