Ok so my restaurant hosted a bake sale of which proceeds went to an organization that helps fight child hunger. Anyway I made a tres leches baba au rum, a chocolate eclair with a cardamom and orange infused chocolate cream filling and a fudge coconut macaroon... I'll post the pictures as soon as I get a chance too... here is one you can enjoy... It's my display table at work for my pastries:)wow I've had a horrible week for pictures LOL maybe it's the stress... I look bloated and am forcing a smile. NOT a happy camper... been too stressed lately.

sea of poppies

Ok here are the rest of the poppy pictures. you wouldnt believe
how many poppies there are and how dense these hills are with these
golden flowers... well they look orange but you know... california "the golden state" so we have the poppy which is supposed to be golden too. anyway on with the pictures. you'll see horrible pictures of me including the one above... what can I say... I guess one cant always take good pictures so these are pretty bad but whatever LOL. You'll also see my car with it's new dent on the door that I am upset about but dont really care anymore if that makes any sense... and mountains of POPPIES. ENJOY!

allergy adventure

So Philippe and I went to have dinner a Kabuki (i call it Kabooty) LOL. Anyway I was all set for seafood because I grew out of my seafood allergy so I decided I wanted to eat scallops for the first time in my life. I dont know why I thought scallops would be a good choice for my first time having seafood since i developed my allergy. I've never eaten scallops before so I thought I'd love to try it now. I ordered seared scallops with sauteed vegetables and rice topped with string carrots. the carrots were long like noodles. I couldnt even eat them LOL very strange... anyway I tried one scallop and told Philippe if I cant eat my food would he be nice enough to eat it for me, he agreed. so I at my scallop but couldnt eat more. Why? It was too fishy for me. the texture was like I imagined but it was too fishy. Phil's used to seafood so he said it wasnt fishy but I hadnt had seafood since I was 3 probably. I did enjoy the sauce that the scallops were seared with. It was like a spicy teriyaki sauce that also coated my veggies and was lovely with the rice. so I had rice and sauteed veggies with a spicy terriyaki sauce. It was DELICIOUS! I'll go again probably and give my scallops away and just eat the veggies and rice. Anyway I tried Philippe's sushi and surprisingly, I enjoyed his sushi A LOT more than my scallops. His sushi was not fishy at all and was actually quite yummy. I'll consider ordering that next time I go. Ok, for dessert we had... you guessed it! MACAROONS!!! LOL!!! seriously those macaroons are a mouth full of yum!

Field of poppies!!

Last thursday I went to palmdale california to see the poppy fields... what's so special? well the poppy flowers are only out once a year for a few weeks only and they are the official flower of the state of California so I just had to go. the drive was about one hour north of L.A. and boy was I itchy after laying down on these fields of poppies. I have more pictures in my camera but I dont have my camera now so I'll post what I have from my phone. enjoy!

easter flowers

I know easter is over but I just had to take a picture of this bouquet of beautiful flowers that had freakin egg in the middle of it. LOL well the egg was nicely decorated but it seemed strange to be in a bouquet of flowers LOL here's a picture. Oh and I loved the teddy bear that had it's head in a sunflower!! it was sooo cute. LOL i found both these things at vons after Amina and I went finished dinner at Tofu House. She went to return a movie at vons and we started looking at all the cute easter things.

My soup!

I've been going out for dinner a lot lately and I dont normally eat out for dinner too much because I eat at work but lately I just go out with friends and have dinner with them but wednesday I just made some udon noodle soup with shitaki mushrooms, baby bok choy, tofu, green onions tofu seasoning for broth and some cilantro. I made curry noodles yesterday but forgot to take a picture of them it was DELICIOUS though. LOL I wish you guys could have been there to share my pot of food. LOL! ok well here is my soup.

Hunt for the best Macaroons!!!

So Philippe and I hung out last week I dont remember exactly when it was... wait I think it was tuesday right?...So we played airhockey and of course I got my ass beat by this frenchman. LOL! but that's ok cuz I won 1 game out of four airhockey games that we played that day... normally I dont win at all. So then we played a soccer video game and I of course played for the mexican team and Phil played for the french team naturally, it was a good game and I SCORED!!!! but for the opposing team ha ha ha ha ha ha so team france won because I scored on the wrong side of the field. LOL!! whatever Philippe, it took a mexican to score for the french ha ha ha ha ha JK... but it was fun as hell then Phil went on to play against... I forgot but he got his butt kicked LOL! Anyway Phil had bought some macaroons from a very cute small shop in studio city that morning and was nice enough to share them with me while we made our way to santa monica. He bought a variety of flavors and I'd bite half and he'd have the other half so we both enjoyed the many macaroon flavors they had to offer. I really liked those macaroons but Philippe said that there are much better macaroons out there. Of course Paris being the best place for these sweet treats but since I am not in Paris we headed over to beverly hills to a really nice modern looking macaroon shop with a very friendly cashier lady. I cant believe i've never seen this place before and it's right across where I used to shop for clothes for my niece. I dont remember the name of this macaroon shop though but let me tell you that these are little bundles of mouth watering sugary joy!!! you can just bite into one and the flavor just blooms in your mouth like you wouldnt believe!!! so thank you Philippe for introducing me to this shop. I will certainly be going back for more. Actually, I was at work yesterday and I remembered the macaroons and thought I could go for some right about now but then I remembered I had eaten pastries all morning so I didnt go get any. In case you guys didnt know, I do have an unhealthy obsession with sweets. pastries are my weakness... I get full with a normal meal really fast but I am a bottomless pit when it comes to sweets! darn I wish i could remember the name of the shop in Beverly Hill and Studio City... grrrr well i took a picture of the seal for the Beverly Hills shop so if you know what it is do post a comment below and let me know. Ok so I forgot what flavors Phil got... ummm I think green tea, earl gray, apricot, lavender which was out of this world, um... damn i forgot what else. LOL I bought passion fruit, hazelnut and chocolate, coffee, coconut, pistachio, lol these sound more like ice cream flavors dont they? ha ha ha ha I forgot what else i purchased but we enjoyed them like you wouldnt believe. I took a picture of the ones that were left before we finished them.

korean food at last

Ok so finally it's my day off and I will finish my posts. lets start with my trip to the tofu house... Ok so my friend Amina invited me to tofu house. This place is known for their soups. piping hot. still boiling at your table. anyway before you order they serve you sticky rice and water... then after ordering you get all the side dishes that come with the food. one dish holds a sort of clam and what look like pickled jalapeno peppers with a hint of anchovy mixture, another dish holds ice cold pickles with ice cubes served with them to keep the crunch another dish holds the famous korean pickled cabbage dish KIMCHI! and last a side of broccoli and cauliflower steamed topped with what I think was a lemon grass dressing that I absolutely loved!!! also you get a full fried fish with your meal and another dish with seasoned beansprouts!!!! I am no longer allergic to seafood anymore but I still couldnt bring myself to eat that fish. I LOVE BEANSPROUTS I LOVE BEANSPROUTS I LOVE BEANSPROUTS!!!! YUMMMMMMM!!!! Oh and yet ANOTHER DISH with a raw egg for you to crack into ur super hot soup. crack the egg in your soup and mix it so that the heat of your soup cooks your egg. These people must LOVE washing dishes LOL!!!
My soup was at the spiciest level... (to me not that spicy actually) and it was a tofu stew. basically vegetables stewed in some broth (not sure what kind of broth) with tofu. It's DELICIOUS!!! the service is incredibly fast. Your rice is served in a bowl that looks like it's made of lava rock material. anyway they scoop the rice out of the bowl for you and place it in a stainless steel rice cup. They add water to the rice that remains stuck in the rock bowl and let it set for a bit. At first I thought that they did that so that the rice could come off easy when they wash the dish but then I thought why would they leave that on my table? that would be unsanitary... then our waitress comes around and scrapes the toasted soggy rice from that rock bowl again and pours the water with the rice inside another stainless steel bowl and removes the rock bowl from our table. IT'S RICE SOUP!! more like rice porridge. because the rice stuck to the sides of the rock bowl, it gave the rice a nice toasted flavor a sort of barley flavor. VERY GOOD!! after a big meal this rice soup soothed my stomach nicely. then we went out to the front to take pictures of the restaurant and walked a few blocks to let our food set. anyway here are some pictures we took. ENJOY!!!

The rice soup/ porridge... whatever LOL!

my delicious tofu stew. with vegetables. mmmmm!! I dont normally eat egg but because of my anemia, I am slowly trying to eat eggs. this is a great way to hide eggs in your diet if you dont like eggs normally.

I eat very little and get full really fast but this place is soooo good I actually ate EVERYTHING!! Including side dishes minus the chili/clam/anchovy side or fish.
