Another mag w/interview

June '09 City Pictorial magazine

Wentworth Miller: “We need to sense any emotion no matter how subtle it is.”

(...) Miller, who has a huge die-hard Chinese fandom because of Prison Break, was working in China: becoming an official spokesperson for Chevolet Cruze China District. Steve Betz, the head of Marketing Department of Shanghai GM Cruze said: “Miller’s personality, and his confidence, intelligence, and his international star-appeal, all match with Chevy Cruze’s characteristics perfectly.”

CP: Could you describe one day of your life in LA? Is it like “one day of a happy ‘stay-home’ single male’s life”?
Miller: I stay in the world of Prison Break for the past four years, spending a lot of time for preparing shooting. I get up at 8 every morning, start to work at 9, have a short break for lunch, then go back shooting again until 6 or 7 in the evening, and then I go home. As for the days I don’t work, I’ll make myself completely relaxed because you know I have to work five days a week, very busy. So most of my spare time, I will relax, read novel, work out. I like lying in a couch, being a couch potato and enjoying a DVD.

CP: Could you still remember your first role? Did you have learnt some lesson from this experience?
Miller: I played a high school student in Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997. The main plot is a high school teacher injected Shark DNA into four high school students in order to make them turn. This is my first role. I am very happy that I didn’t get fired. That’s it. I was too nervous back at that time. Although I have some stage-play experience, it’s two things, facing audience on stage and facing a camera.

CP: What’s your bottom line for choosing a project?
Miller: I will ask myself first whether I like the story. It’s two different concepts, spending three hours to watch a story and shooting a three-hour story. For some story, I'd rather enjoy it in the theatre with pop corn than participating in the making process.

CP: Which is your favorite American TV show?
Miller: Law and Order.

CP: If you have a chance to be a guest star in a series, which one would be?
Miller: still Law and Order. As long as it’s Law and Order, no matter whatever role they offer me, an attorney, a criminal, even a passerby around street corner, I will take it.

(...)

CP: It’s late spring now. Do you have any special memory about this season?
Miller: it happens to be the season that I graduated from Princeton. It was a profound memory. Acting is a “dangerous” dream. I was uncertain and confused about the future. I went to LA from Princeton and tried to find a job in Hollywood. In a production company, I had a face-to-face interview with an executive. After the interview, I thought I did well. And at the moment, he took me to a room next door and said to me: “The toilet in this restroom doesn’t work. Since you graduated from Princeton, I guess it won’t be any problem for you to fix it, will it?” So, that whole afternoon, I was squatting at the company’s restroom fixing that toilet

CP: Did you fix it at last?
Miller: of course. I fixed it and got the job. So finally, the four-year Princeton life got rewarded. At least I know how to fix a toilet.

CP: what does driving mean to you?
Miller: I enjoy the time being alone. I may not turn on music while in a car, but being alone makes me feel very free. The ideal car should be reliable, but it doesn’t mean it has to be an expensive car. I becoming a spokesperson for Chevy Cruze because Chevolet is a representative brand in American. It’s a part of American culture. It has both the energy of a sports car and the comfort of a luxury car.

CP: In an American talk show, you said you are allergic to cat, dog, even human being. Are you a very sensitive person?
Miller: I am slightly allergic to animal, but not to human. Actors are all sensitive, or you can say you have to be sensitive in this business. We need to sense any emotion no matter how subtle it is.

CP: You graduated in English literature major from Princeton, yet you choose a career which barely has a connection with your major. Is there any special aspect you treasure about Princeton?
Miller: I don’t think there is no connection between Princeton and my current career. I spent four years studying literature, analyzing stories, languages and transcripts, and learning the tricks of playing with words. All these help me understand my job better, understanding scripts and performance. On the other level, I also learnt discipline, endurance and tolerance from Princeton.

CP: A Chinese proverb says “at 40, one no longer suffered from perplexities”. You are 37. Do you feel any middle-age crisis while you are getting near 40?
Miller: In my opinion, people think they can do anything at 20. Then they start to realize their limitation at 30. However, near 40, you will become more flexible. By that time, it’s easier to be calm and relaxed.

CP: It was said that you are going to do an independent movie. What kind of character is it?
Miller: Right now, there are several movie projects proposals, but no specific schedule. One is a horror movie. The difference between shooting an independent movie and shooting a TV show is the former only needs one and two months and the latter needs one season or even a couple of seasons. For Prison Break, I have been shooting it for the past four years.

CP: If there hadn’t been Prison Break, where would you have been right now? Have you ever thought about this?
Miller: Even if there hadn’t been Prison Break, I think I still would have been an actor, maybe wandering around LA, being on a waiting list, playing tiny roles, walking dogs for stars, but I would still have been acting. Maybe it’s a glamorous thing to become famous at 20s, but it’s still great now. I am very grateful for what I have right now.

Thanks again to Amber & Aryel.

Jodi Lynn O'Keefe Phone Interview

Found this on SpoilerTV (of course) today & I think this is a great interview! Enjoy!

The actress who plays Gretchen Morgan talks about the series and the upcoming DVD movie

Jodi Lynn O'Keefe certainly got off to a fast start in Hollywood. The actress landed the role of Marguerite Cory on the soap opera Another World when she was a sophomore in high school and was on the show for six years. Right after that she played Cassidy in all six seasons of Nash Bridges while also starring in films like Halloween: H20 and the teen flick She's All That as high school hottie Taylor Vaughn. O'Keefe returned to the small screen in 2007 with her role of the devious Gretchen Morgan on Prison Break. The fourth and final season of the show just hit the DVD shelves this week on June 2 and fans of the hit Fox series will get some closure with the upcoming DVD movie, Prison Break: The Final Break, which comes to DVD and Blu-ray on July 21. I had the chance to speak with O'Keefe on the phone about this popular series and upcoming DVD, and here's what she had to say.

So you came on during Season 3, so can you just talk about how you came on board to the show?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: I was brought on board by the company kind of to step in and clean up a situation that had gotten out of their control. I was the gal that they turned to who would sort of do anything to get the job done. That's how I was introduced. Basically, the girl was tormenting our two leads.

So how did the role come to you? Did they offer it to you or did you audition or how did that go?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: I had been doing comedies for Fox for a couple of years and so I don't think I was really one of their first thoughts for this role. I did the audition like a lot of other people did and I was really excited about it because I was a fan of the show already. My audition actually came in the day of, and I didn't want to go in because I didn't want to blow it. I called my manager and I said, 'I can't do it. I can't go in today and do this on the same day. I need to take time and prepare with the script. I don't want to go in there and do a crappy job, because I love this show.' So he said to me, 'OK, well if there's another day, there's another day and if there's not, there's not. If it was meant to be, maybe it'll come around again.' And they had one more day of auditions and I went in and got the role, I guess.

So you haven't really played a character like this before, so what kinds of things did you do to get into the character of Gretchen Morgan?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: I ignored every single instinct I have as a human being (Laughs). I'm not confrontational, I don't like to fight, I don't even like to argue so, for me, it was like everything felt completely wrong, and that's what I did. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to pull it off, and I just decided that I was going to really really try and be this completely opposite person.

I was at the panel at Comic-Con last year and they were talking a little bit about the format, how one year they'd be in prison and the next year they'd be out, stuff like that. So can you talk a bit about that format and how that really served the show?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Well, each season we took it to a new level. I was a fan before, so I didn't understand how they were going to keep it on the air. Once they broke out... I mean, it's called Prison Break. What are they going to do when they get out of prison? But they really came up with a really clever way every single year. They kept surprising me. One year they're in prison, the next year they're on the run, the next year after that, one gets thrown into a Panamanian jail and then in this last season, Season 4, it was actually in a women's prison.

There was quite an amazing cast to this show too, with Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper and all those guys. What was just a day on the set like working with this amazing cast?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Well, I was a little nervous when I first got there, because it's, you know, all men. I thought this was going to be interesting. It was going to be me, with a gun and a bunch of dudes and I was like, 'Am I going to be comfortable?' It turned out that I got there and they were such gentlemen and they were so lovely to me that they made me feel at home right away. There are all these guys asking every minute if you're thirsty? Do you need a glass of water? Are you OK? Have you eaten today (Laughs). It was the exact opposite of everything that I expected to happen. I was expecting a bunch of stinky, sweaty boys. It was easy. I kind of integrated into the cast really easily. They are amazing to work with. The first couple of weeks on set, I just couldn't stop smiling. My favorite story to tell is that I got there and it was like, that's Michael Scofield. That's not Wentworth Miller. That's Michael, and I had just this big sh*t-eating grin on my face the entire time. I had to constantly remind myself that, 'Maybe you shouldn't smile so much when you're killing someone" (Laughs). It was an adjustment.

From what I understand, the Prison Break: The Final Break DVD that's coming out next month, they were essentially two episodes that were previously produced that they made into this film, so were these episodes supposed to come out before the season finale or how did that all work?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: It was actually, in the season finale, where they showed you where the show ended up and then they flash-forwarded to four years later, it's the time in between. It explains everything that happens and I think it was always supposed to be after the season finale. The season finale left you with all these questions, and this two-part show answers them all for you. It's kind of like a bonus at the end of all of it.

Without giving too much away, is there stuff that is still left lingering, or does this tie up pretty much everything in the new DVD?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Well, you know, the question that everyone keeps asking me, that people say to me all the time is, 'Michael's really actually dead, is he? That's crazy. That's impossible.' So with Prison Break, you kind of never know when someone is dead and when someone is not (Laughs). I never know how to answer these questions, because I don't think anyone would believe me anyway. No, I just don't think anyone in the public is actually going to be convinced that Michael is actually not around.

So when did you guys actually film this DVD then?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Right at the end of our season. As soon as we finished all the episodes for the season and the finale, then we went and shot the next two.

I see you also shot a pilot called The Call so has that been picked up or is there anything you can tell us about that?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Oh, that was before Prison Break and it hasn't been picked up.

Oh ok. They had it on IMDB and it said for 2010, so I wasn't sure if it actually was picked up.
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Oh. Well, you know what though, it also said on IMDB that I had my own show called The Gretchen Morgan Files, so I don't know about that (Laughs).

Yeah. You can't really trust them that much.
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: (Laughs) I mean, I called my manager and said, 'Do I have a show? Maybe someone should've told me?'

You think you'd be the first to know, if you have your own show.
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: (Laughs) Yeah, me too, right? And I'm really the last to know.

So is there anything that you're currently working on or looking to start up in the near future?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe
: No, actually. Right now, I'm just scrambling for work, trying to find a project that I love and that I'm into and get back in the saddle again. I finished Prison Break and I did a guest star on The Big Bang Theory and it's been about a month or so, since I've stopped working. I'm just reading scripts and looking for TV or some kind of film work right now. The industry is very very slow.

Yeah, I suppose. I've been hearing that a lot. Everything is hopefully going to be cleared up with SAG in the next couple of weeks, I assume.
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: You know what, I hope so to. Like my mom always says, 'From your lips to God's ears,' we'll go with that one.

So, finally, what would you like to say to all the fans that supported the show throughout the years and can you talk a little bit about why they should pick this Prison Break: The Final Break up on DVD next month?
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Oh, well, first of all, these are fans like I've never seen before. I jumped into a show that had a cult following and they were so great to me. I went and did a convention in London and people just loved this character, or loved to hate me. I was overwhelmed and was just so grateful all the time. I think that really the reason to pick up this DVD and to watch the two-parter is you get more on the characters and what happens and it's just fun. The show is done. They took it off the air. Let's have one last little hurrah and check out the two-part episode on DVD. I haven't seen it yet, and I'm really excited for it.

Excellent. Well, that's about all I have for you, Jodi. Thanks so much for your time, and the best of luck.
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe: Thanks. Have a great day.

You can see Jodi Lyn O'Keefe and the rest of the cast of Prison Break bring the series to a close when Prison Break: The Final Break hits the shelves on DVD and Blu-ray on July 21, and you can pick up Prison Break: Season 4 on the DVD shelves now.

Robert Knepper moves to "Heroes"

Now it's not what you think, or is it? Is T-bag gonna be the new bad guy or will he turn out to be good after all? I'll be sure to start watching Heroes this coming Fall!

After being that guy we love to hate, T-Bag, in Prison Break, Robert Knepper is set to become yet another guy we love to hate. Or so it seems, for now. And, of all places, it's Heroes.

Knepper has signed on to become the lead villain in the fourth season of the NBC series, which will premiere in the fall. For at least six episodes, he will play Samuel, the character referred to as "Carnival Barker" in previous releases. He'll be charismatic, all right, but he'll be evil, like every other villain. The character will possess a wickedly twisted sense of humor, and he is expected to peek into the lives of all the heroes.

The guy we used to know as T-Bag--the supremacist who's flipped side(s) more often than anybody else in Prison Break, but ended up returning to jail after a failed attempt to bow down to the Company--is set to start shooting Heroes, with the rest of the cast, later this week. The series is set to return for its fourth season on NBC this fall.

Thanks BudyTV for the info!

Here's a little clip called "Prison Break: The Family Environment on Set" with Wentworth, Amaury, Rockmond & William

The Final Break: Spoiler

I was able to watch The Final Break this weekend. I won't give too many details since I know most US viewers haven't had the pleasure of watching it yet.

All I'll say is that I liked it a lot, but I think my expectations were a little high. Now please don't take that as a negative against the movie, the writers, etc.; I tend to do that a lot & thus get let down when I watch stuff. Did the same thing with Halloween (the Rob Zombie version). Anyway, I did not like the ending b/c I was looking for more, but the movie itself was great! I cried several times. There were the usual PB hiccups that we expect & there were the usual "uh oh" moments; all of that was awesome! So if you haven't ordered it yet, please do!

Okie, for those of you have seen it & for those who kinda' know what's gonna happen, here's the spoiler from The Man! It's not really a spoiler so I won't use the button, but you will have to click below to read it - it gives me some sort of satisfaction since it deals with what I disliked about the end! Enjoy!

Q:The_Man can you tell me what happened to Michaels body? In the final break they left HIM in this prison but in the flashforward in the finale they were standing at his grave.

The Man: just because there is a grave, it does not mean there is a body beneath it. most likely since L & S were supposedly on the run again, the government would have diposed of michaels body. however, since mahone was technically helping the FBI to get his job back, he may have found a way to secure the body and get it back to Sara and Linc.

Prison Break: The Video Game is back!

"Prison Break" may be done on TV, but the video game is getting a second chance.

Before the series was killed by Fox this year at the end of its fourth season, the Prison Break video game was canceled last fall by Brash Entertainment, the now defunct publisher of games based on movie and TV licenses.

But Slovenia-based developer Zootfly, which was producing the game for Brash, decided to fund the project to completion itself. It has just signed a deal with publisher Deep Silver, part of Britain-based Koch Media, to release Prison Break this fall.

"The cancellation was a blessing in disguise because we got to spend more time on the key gameplay features and get rid of the half-baked ideas Brash management pushed on us," Zootfly CEO Bostjan Troha said on the phone from Slovenia.

Releasing a licensed video game when the property on which it's based no longer exists is a difficult business proposition, but Troha said he's counting on the show's loyal fan base, many of whom protested its death, to support the title. The CEO said he's still working with Fox to secure some of the show's actors to do voice work.

Prison Break and Where the Wild Things Are, which is set for release this fall but is still searching for a publisher, are the last of Brash's games far enough along in production that they'll eventually see the light of day.

Happy Birthday, Wentworth

To the one I love
(and probably the one man half the ladies in the world ALSO love):

I hope your day is filled with all the joy, love & frapps you deserve!

Love you,

Laila
