Even lower ratings?

Ok, according to tvbythenumbers.com, Prison Break ratings are at an all time low. Remember the last episode this past December before the hiatus? well that episode only pulled in about 4.8 viewers.
Prison Break's first episode for this spring only pulled in 3.39 million viewers. At one point, this show use to bring in ABOUT 12 million viewers every week and now it's gone down to 3.39? WOW!!! I don't think this "Dr. Sarah" having a baby is helping out too much either. I don't know, that just doesnt seem prison break-like to me. I am amazed (but not surprised) at how much the numbers have dropped. It went from being nominated for a golden globe award to being canceled and only having 3 million viewers... OUCH!!
Somewhere along the line, the writers screwed up. Don't get me wrong, they are very talented and have kept the show running for 4 years but the ratings kept declining. I think they tested our patience for too long with the story line and the viewers just lost patience with where the story was leading to. Now we brought back the dead, added a baby to the picture and broke in and out of prisons as we pleased... I mean... really! No wonder the show got canceled. I am not trashing the show at all so please don't take it the wrong way, I am just pointing out what might have led to such low ratings and cancellation. what's your take on it?

S E Here,

I would expect as much about the ratings. Who stays home to watch TV on Friday nights? Of course some people do, but not many. I admit myself, that I haven't watched the first two eps on air night because I was busy doing other things. But I have watched them online. Even though the ratings are low, I'll bet it still has great ratings for a show that airs on Friday nights at 8pm. I just watched last nights ep and I must say that I am a little angry to say the least, right now. Not because the show was bad. IMO, Prison Break has only gotten better over time. There are a couple of dry eps during Season 2, but for me, it's still gets better with each one. I do agree that a lot of the viewers lost patience, however, I have patience to spare.

I love good stories, and I don't mind hanging around for a while to see where they go. I'm also a viewer who doesn't watch with expectations or speculatory views. Also, I don't read spoilers at all and I usually don't watch previews either. There IS a reason why they call them SPOILERS. I'm just one of those people who allows the show to reveal itself to me. I think that's why I still find the show thoroughly entertaining.

Back to my anger issue; A BABY? Are you freaking kidding me? A FREAKING BABY! That is so irresponsible! Michael and Sara don't know what to do to prevent a pregnancy? They're lives have been too busy to consider the pill. Okay,I get that. And it's too dangerous to run out for a pack of Trojans. Okay, I get that, too. But hell, what about the freaking Rhythm Method?!!! It does work, you know!!! I can attest to that! Michael has always known how to pull back when things get too heated and out of hand. Why couldn't he have done that this time?!! LOL!! Seriously though, IMO, the writers have really screwed up this time, REALLY!!!!

I have to agree w/SE. I think that this whole Friday night thing is hard. I'm gonna tune in regardless b/c I'm like a couch potato who does nothing & even if I do, I'm gonna record it & watch it ASAP. I love the show & I believe it does get better all the time.

SE, that "pull back" comment had me cracking up! I won't comment on my thoughts but it was an, umm *ahem* interesting thought! I hate that she's pregnant b/c that whole thing about Mikey having to choose to save Sara or Lincoln makes me think he'll choose the mother of his child - UNLESS he won't know she's pregnant! IDK, but I don't like this at all... good thing there's more to the show that her b/c I'd probably throw in the towel =(

I don´t have any objections about Sara being pregnant. But what makes me mad is that nobody knows how she got pregnant. Whatever happens in the show is fine to me as long as I understand why the characters do what they do. But I can only understand that if i know what happened to or with them. If the writers don´t have the kindness to tell me the show becomes boring.

Hey Anon ~ don't be so shy! We don't bite, well, not always LOL!

Anyhoot, see I just don't like Sara so don't mind me lol! But I know how she got pregnant. First episode of the season, she & Michael slept together. Remember him getting dressed - they show him from behind where you can see the tattoo, he was putting his shirt back on. He gets back in bed with her & he gives her the origami rose. All this happens right before she starts having flashbacks of what happened to her in Panama... she tells Michael about it then shows him her scars... next thing you know, someone's shooting at them! That I remember. And also, I remember him saying in an interview or two that his character "finally gets some" LOL! So there we have the "how", my problem is the why... as if he seriously needs a baby with all that's going on in his life. I think Sara ain't quite "there" yet to have a baby. I don't think she can handle it; she's a little too unstable in my opinion, as well she should be - she's been through a lot as well. Not to mention it's not safe for her since she's always on the run from bad guys w/Michael - there's shoot outs & high speed car chases & that's just not safe for her! Still don't like her LOL!

Hey, Laila, I have the same feeling with you. Those guys keep running away from the danger, and Michael is a very prudential person, will he make this thing happen?!? Although I understand that is a normal thing for a couple, I still can't accept the story goes like this.

Laila if we have the "how" my question is: in the whole"process" Michael not even ones touch her back?he never touch those scars?
that is little strage for a man with hes intelligence!!!!!
i'm a little disappointment with the writers...it's a show with fugitives,fugitives dosn't have babys...

S E here!

Well, it's not that I don't like Sara. She's there, so I have to deal with her. I'm one of the few people, and I think Laila agrees, that Sara should've stayed dead. The show, IMO, did not need her character. I also think the timing of her death was right and I think the writers should've left that as water under the bridge. I said that in the FOX forum and OMGosh, they came after me with torches and pitch forks in the night! A show like this, doesn't need the romance edge. A little sex is okay, but the romantic aspect, IMO, is actually wasted. After being on the run all this time, saving each others lives time and time again, there is still absolutely NO PASSION between Michael and Sara. There's only been ONE passionate kiss between them (on the train). It was awesome, but no where near enough! Maybe now that Sara's pregnant, Micheal will send her away, and she'll be gone like she should've been when she lost her head.

Laila said...

Heck yeah she should've remained dead. I mean, I was shocked to see "her head in the box", but I was ok with it by the time the epi was over LOL! It added the extra anger to Michael I wanted to see & it gave hope that he would gut someone in the future for her death. I was looking forward to him avenging her THEN they HAD to bring her back - sheesh! Now that she's back, she proved useful, what - twice this season: once at the racetrack & again when she cornered Lisa in the restroom. Other than that, she's a waste!

I adored that train kiss... TV/movie kisses NEVER get to me BUT that one did =D Honestly, when they kissed in the first epi of this season, he looked like he wanted to kiss her but she didn't look the same. Her character just didn't seem as happy to see him as he was to see her & that kinda' didn't sit well with me; she didn't even cry. Epi one of this season was the worst ever for me. It was horrible; I simply didn't like it & y'all know I LOVE PB!

Anyway, I agree that there's really nothing there between the two of them. They can't really have a future. I said somewhere before that it's the thrill of the chase for them now but when that all dies & they can actually be together, the high will be gone & it wouldn't last. Perhaps he should send her away now that she's pregnant; he'll always be looking over his shoulder & that's no life for a child. She needs to run while she can before the Company finds out she's pregnant. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time Michael has used a woman & sent her away LOL! BRING NIKA BACK!!!!! Ok, I'm done ranting... for now =)

Laila said...

I forgot to say that I got my details mixed up a little when I explained the "how they got pregnant" thing up there! The part where he got up from bed then got back in & gave her the rose, the kissing, blah blah blah, all happened before they showed him putting his shirt back on, her telling him about what happened to her, showing him the scars & him touching her back. So we can either assume he got "some" twice or they just cuddled or whatever the first time.

S E again,

I, too, thought that I would see a more angry and dark Michael and I was looking so forward to seeing her avenge her death. I think Wentworth may have had some influence on keeping his character more stable. He said a few times in interviews that he didn't want to see Michael go too far over the deep end because a lot of kids saw him as a hero. Me, I wouldn't have worried about that, because although Michael would have been out for revenge, he's still a just guy. I didn't expect to see him on a killing spree (company people) at all. He's not a sociopath!! I just saw him going only after Gretchen and the General. Michael only hurt people as a last resort, never in a maliscous way. All the wrong he's done has always been for Lincoln and/or Sara's sake. Now, he wants to stop something that he thinks will be a danger to everyone.

Again, I agree with Laila. I can understand when Sara first reunites with Micahael in Season 2, that the hurt from all she had lost is still fresh. However, she knows Micheal is a GOOD MAN and that he'd never intentionally hurt her directly or indirectly. Me, the moment I saw those eyes, all would've been forgiven. It's not his fault. I would've fell into his arms sobbing, just glad to see him still alive. I would be such a Ride or Die chick for him. I would ALWAYS have his back, until he gave me a reason not to. We need lots and lots men like Michael in reality. And Wentworth just plays him perfectly! I just melt like butta when I watch Michael accomplish something nearly impossible. If the world were filled with men like him, with his intelligence, reason and integrity, I'm certain it would be a much better place.

DITTO ^^^^ what she said LOL! All of it!

You know what though, I remember Wentworth going on that European trip last March. I honestly don't think he had a clue that SWC was coming back. In more than one interview he was asked about her departure & he sincerely talked about Sara being dead & how he was looking forward to his character taking that dark turn. Then it's like as soon as he got back, they announced her return which made him look bad IMO b/c it made it seem as if he didn't know what he was talking about. I mean, I didn't hold it against him & I know that the actors don't always know what's going on or have a lot of input BUT it just didn't look good. Anyhoo, I'm rambling again... SE, I like that "RIDE OR DIE CHICK" comment! We are like twins, dude!

Wow. Lots of passion here, you guys:) Friday nights are where shows are sent to die. It is never a good idea. The network does this when it is packing up a show. They're not trying to get new viewers and figure that those who love it will forgo friday festivities to it out of loyalty. Don't forget that many people do not have the nielsen box to be able to even show their support sooo while nielsen watchers may have dropped off or even dropped their allegience to the box, the show my have gained momentum ith others (who weren't so, um, boxed in).
That said. I watched it on and off that night. I was busy. Missed the whole pregnant thing. Besides I have actually only watched about 6 episodes anyway.

I feel the show was respectful to more likely the actors to not show them having sex on air but it could have still been handled with more clarity. I too believe in less action and more implication but Michael putting his shirt back on means nothing. Men take off the shirts all the time even for naps. In fact the scene of him touching her scars could actually have been a good jumping point that could imply they THEN had THE sex as he kind of comforts and loves her scars and all.

Now reasonsibility, how now? To tellyou the truth I still don't see any reason for them to have had sex even if they had a room to themselves. And to have not even planned it a bit. Well, let's wait until we have some protection. I see this ocuple as being protective and careful around eachother not careless and abandoned. What a sad note to go off on. Michael's darkness, regret and vengeance is one thing but to throw this off the topic subject in at the very end issssss saaaaad. Thre is nothing redemptive. So the hero went on a quest to save his brother, he crossed the line and made some wrong choices but in the end, he got the girl pregnant without much thought to family planning. Michael IS not like other men. Why reduce him to it now. It doesn't bring humanity to him but pure stupidity.

Hi Gimble - good to see you.

I am one of those who, when I like a show, I'm like SE said she would be w/Michael - that "ride or die chick". I love TV & Prison Break makes TV better! I don't know what it will be like when it's over!

I'm not so sure if Friday night is the "doom" night though! Ghost Whisperer & NUMBER3 are both on Friday & I don't think either of those shows are about to go anywhere. That, however, might be the general consensus, though. Most people are out doing their thing, so why not throw a show in a Friday night slot when no one's really watching. Very sad b/c I watch & would forgo plans to watch or, if absolutely necessary, will record & watch as soon as I could!

As for the putting the shirt back on thing, the only reason we know they had sex is b/c Wentworth did say that his character finally "gets some" this season LOL & since that was the only opportune time as of late, there you go! I do agree that it's of poor choice b/c they can never be happy together. They'll always be looking over their shoulders AND if the spoilers I posted earlier are in fact accurate, it's a grave mistake that they are pregnant. I'm really disappointed if you didn't already know!

Thanks for the comment!

Oh Laila, I forgot to ask you; Did you see the kiss between Wentworth and Lucinda in "The Human Stain?" OMFreaking Gosh!! That kiss is awesome! It's the best kiss I've seen in a long, long time. I love the kisses in the movies from the 50s and early 60s Hollywood movies (like in the Sandra Dee movies). I know a lot of them are fake (turn away from camera and put faces in necks sort of thing), but the timing, intensity, and passion all make up for it!
